The nursing profession is rooted in science and the protection of nurses should also reflect both emerging scientific research and the precautionary principle. The precautionary principle asserts that we should not wait for scientific proof of harm before taking action to protect people’s health. Protections for nurses and other health care workers should be proactive and preventive, based on the precautionary principle, rather than reactive to Covid-19.
