Registered nurses at ABSMC in Oakland and Berkeley issued a 10-day notice to Sutter Health to inform hospital administration that nurses intend to hold a five-day strike in response to persistent patient care issues, including workplace violence and high turnover rates.

The letter was sent to facilities across the nation where more than 180,000 NNU nurses work, asking that they provide information about planning, employee training, screening, patient placement, staffing, infection prevention, and more.

The new contracts support improvements in patient care and will strengthen each hospitals’ capacity to retain and recruit registered nurses, which is a priority given the staffing crisis at each facility.
