Welcome letter by Bonnie Castillo, RN Executive Director of CNA/NNOC/NNU
Welcome! I could not be more thrilled about coming together for our CNA/NNOC Convention – 120 Years of Advocacy. When we stand together in unbreakable solidarity, union nurses know we can win big for our patients and for each other. It’s so critical that we carve out time to share strategies and knowledge, listen to each other’s experiences, make new connections, refuel and recharge, and grow our solidarity. Look forward to seeing you.

Patient Handling
Frequent manual patient handling can cause microinjuries, which accumulate into chronic and sometimes severe musculoskeletal disorders and back injuries. RNs need protection from this ergonomic hazard. Sprains, strains, and tears make up 52% of all injuries that result in days away from work for RNs. Unsafe patient handling causes the bulk of these injuries, some of which have ended nurses’ careers.
The most effective solution is a coordinated safe patient handling program at the hospital-level.
