Registered nurses at Providence St. Joseph Hospital Eureka and at Providence Redwood Memorial Hospital voted overwhelmingly in favor of ratifying a new three-year contract, winning protections to improve patient safety and nurse retention.

Registered nurses at Sutter Davis Hospital in Davis, Calif. voted last night to join California Nurses Association (CNA), an affiliate of National Nurses United (NNU), the nation’s largest and fastest-growing registered nurse (RN) union.

NNU delivered a petition signed by nearly 11,000 individuals and organizations to the CDC and its Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee, urging them to fully recognize aerosol transmission of SARS-CoV-2 and other respiratory pathogens and to strengthen the CDC’s Isolation Precautions guidance.

Registered nurses will join elected officials and labor and community leaders for a town hall on Thursday, Aug. 24. Speakers will address the origins of and practical solutions to the short-staffing and workplace violence crises that put patient care at risk and push nurses to strike at Chicago medical facilities.

Registered nurses at The Hospitals of Providence in El Paso, Texas, will hold an informational picket to protest the administration’s refusal to address RNs’ deep concerns about patient safety due to unsafe staffing and chronic problems with recruitment and retention of nurses.

Respiratory therapists, laboratory technicians, and many other health care workers at Glendale Memorial Hospital in Glendale, Calif., voted overwhelmingly in favor of ratifying a new four-year contract, winning protections to improve patient safety and worker retention.

Registered nurses at Community First Medical Center in Chicago, Ill., voted overwhelmingly in favor of ratifying a new 40-month contract winning protections to improve patient safety and nurse recruitment and retention.

RNs at Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa, Calif., voted overwhelmingly in favor of ratifying a new three-year contract on August 2, 2023, winning protections to improve patient safety and nurse retention.
