Registered nurses at Mission Hospital in Asheville, N.C., will hold a rally on Thursday, March 6, to highlight patient safety concerns and expose the life-threatening conditions patients face due to extreme short-staffing. Nurses note that a patient recently died in the emergency room during a shift when nurses say the unit was down at least six nurses at the start of the shift.

Maine nurses win back thousands of dollars, following state DOL citation against Northern Maine Medical Center

The Maine Department of Labor has issued a citation to Northern Maine Medical Center for regulatory violations, including misclassifying nurses as subcontractors, failing to pay nurses overtime, failing to pay nurses their wages in a timely manner, and requiring nurses to sign contracts that exempted NMMC from Maine’s labor laws.

California nurses applaud new bill introduced to track and expose systematic insurance claim denials

California Nurses Association and its more than 100,000 members across California today share their support for Assembly Bill 682. The new bill would mandate public reporting on the denials of insurance claims for California’s patients, something nurses believe can expose the broken trust between insurers and patients at the root of our broken health care system.
