On Sunday Sept. 9, community members, elected officials and registered nurses will lead a brigade of strollers in the Solano Stroll parade, starting in Berkeley, to protest Sutter Health's proposed closure of Alta Bates Medical Center, the city's only acute care medical facility and the birthplace of thousands of East Bay residents.

In response to the announcement that Verity Health Care System (Verity) is filing Chapter 11 bankruptcy, the California Nurses Association (CNA) is calling on any or all prospective buyers of the hospital chain to keep open all six hospitals, retain current patient services, and honor the collective bargaining rights and current standards for Verity employees.

Emanuel Medical Center Nurses Ratify Contract

Registered nurses at Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock voted by a 98% margin to join the California Nurses Association (CNA) last year. This week they celebrate the overwhelming vote to approve their first contract with CNA.  The pact, covering more than 360 registered nurses at the hospital, features patient care and wage and benefit improvements through 2021and brings the nurses under the umbrella of a statewide contract between CNA and the hospital’s parent company, Tenet Healthcare.
