National Nurses United, the country’s largest nurses union, today expresses horror, sorrow, and condemnation following the fatal shooting by ICE in Minneapolis, Minnesota, issuing the following statement.

Registered nurses and veterans will hold a rally in the Bronx on Thursday, Jan. 8, to denounce the Trump administration’s plans to cut tens of thousands of jobs from the VA. The VA informed NNOC/NNU that 138 positions will be eliminated in the Bronx, and 245 positions will be cut across Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens. 

Nurses across the country are outraged that the Trump administration has ignored the Constitution and committed an imperialist act of war over the weekend without approval from Congress and without backing from our patients, working class people across the United States who are already struggling here at home to afford basic necessities such as health care, food, and housing.

Nurses at the HSA facilities are currently bargaining for renewed union contracts with HSA management. The RNs say they are striking for safe staffing because of the implications safe staffing has for safe patient care.

Registered nurses at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, Mo., will hold a rally on Tuesday, Dec. 23, to highlight chronic short staffing and ongoing safety concerns that SSM Health has repeatedly refused to address.

Nurses across the country reject new Trump Department of Health and Human Services plans seeking to ban the provision of gender-affirming care and to intimidate health care workers who care for trans patients.

Registered nurses at Sutter Health California Pacific Medical Center Davies in San Francisco, Calif., voted overwhelmingly to join California Nurses Association. The election represents a significant milestone for San Francisco as well – Sutter CPMC Davies was the city’s last remaining nonunion hospital for RNs.

National Nurses United has sent letters to members of the U.S. Congress demanding they vote no on pending legislation that fails to extend Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies expiring at the end of 2025, and instead support the House Discharge Petition that is a clean three-year extension of the subsidies.

National Nurses United today warned that the Trump administration’s recent executive order challenging state laws regulating A.I. will threaten the health and safety of patients across the country. The order directs the Justice Department to set up an "AI Litigation Task Force" to sue states over state A.I. regulations.

Nurses are deeply encouraged that 231 congressional members voted to restore collective bargaining rights for VA nurses and other federal workers. This vote is an immensely important step in protecting the rights of federal workers who provide vital services to our communities and care for our nation’s veterans at Veterans Health Administration facilities across the country.
