With just a few weeks left until the special election on November 4, California union nurses are knocking on doors and calling voters across the state to vote Yes on Proposition 50.

Registered nurses at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland (CHO) will hold a rally and speak-out on Friday, Oct. 17, to demand UCSF rescind layoff notices sent to nurses on Oct. 6.

The second No Kings Day of Defiance march and rally in San Francisco on Saturday, October 18 will be one of the largest in the country. Tens of thousands of concerned Americans from the San Francisco Bay Area and surrounding regions are expected to mobilize against authoritarianism and demand accountability from those in power.

California Nurses Association applauds Governor Gavin Newsom for taking action to protect workers from employers’ use of predatory debt contracts and signing Assembly Bill 692 into law on Monday, Oct. 13. A.B. 692 prohibits employers from requiring workers to pay a debt, fee, or penalty if the workers wants to leave their job, expressly making these kinds of exploitative workplace debt arrangements unlawful.

Registered nurses from across the United States and 28 other countries will take part in the “Democracy Is Not for Sale” march in San Francisco on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2025. The march is intended to highlight the international resistance to billionaire agendas that deprive tens of millions of people across the world from access to health care, educational and employment opportunities, and safe environments to live and raise families.

National Nurses United (NNU) and the United Electrical, Radio, and Machine Workers of America (UE) — together representing over a quarter million union members — sent a letter today to President Trump to demand that “the Israeli government permanently end its military operations and blockade in Palestine, and that the United States immediately recognize the sovereignty of Palestine.”

Nurses are calling on the hospital to protect the health of some of Chico’s most vulnerable patients and maintain the essential services and end-of-life care provided by these units.

National Nurses United is calling on Congress to pass H.R. 5450/S. 2882. The Continuing Appropriations and Extensions and other Matters Act of 2026 would not only restart the government but also save lives by restoring health care funding and assistance, while ending the Trump administration’s unprecedented power over government spending.
