Nurses put LA hospitals on ‘RED ALERT’ status

The nation’s largest union of registered nurses, National Nurses United, is bringing a ‘RED ALERT’ warning to hundreds of communities nationwide that face a drastic reduction in quantity and quality of health care services as a result of H.R. 1, the Republican budget bill passed last year. Nurses’ first stop on the ‘RED ALERT’ tour will be in Glendale, California on Saturday, January 24.

EMMC nurses and community members protest Northern Light’s management

Registered nurses at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center held a rally outside the hospital today to highlight their contract demands. The nurses picketed and chanted until sunset and then held a candlelight vigil. Many friends and community members joined the nurses in solidarity for better conditions for patients and nurses at EMMC.

Nurses intend to highlight their concerns that new staffing standards being considered for acute psychiatric hospitals will be used by the hospital industry to weaken the state’s historic and first-of-their kind RN-to-patient ratios legislation.
