Governor Gavin Newsom’s decision to veto AB 1014, a modest bill to require hospitals to give more notice before closing hospitals, is an appalling act of political cowardice. Communities and patients are safer when hospitals stay open, the California Nurses Association/ National Nurses United announced today.

Registered nurses at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Reno, Nev. overwhelmingly ratified a new three-year contract, announced National Nurses Organizing Committee today. The agreement is the result of a bargaining campaign that included an informational picket and a strike pledge.

Earlier this year, National Nurses United (NNU) sent a questionnaire to every Democratic and Republican Presidential candidate who, at that time, had announced their candidacy. The questionnaire asked their position on priority issues for NNU members. Eight of the 21 announced candidates responded.
