Registered nurses at Community Hospital Long Beach are saddened to learn that MemorialCare is backpedaling on their prior commitment to ensure a “warm hand off” to a new operator of Community Hospital Long Beach (CHLB) to prevent it from closing its emergency room on June 25th and the entire hospital on July 3rd.

The Opioid Crisis For Healthcare Workers

Nurses can be exposed to opioids, including fentanyl and carfentanil, through contact with the patient, their environment, clothing, or linens. Three nurses at an NNU facility were exposed to an opioid, that authorities believe was fentanyl or carfentanil, while providing patient care and cleaning a patient’s room. The exposure resulted in all three needing reversal with naloxone/narcan.

The 150,000 nurses of National Nurses United—including 11,000 in the Dept. of Veterans Affairs—recently condemned the VA MISSION Act (HR 5674), in a letter to the U.S. House of Representatives, urging representatives to oppose the legislation, which would allow for the VA system to be dismantled and privatized, endangering healthcare for millions of veterans.
