California Nurses Association statement on San Benito County Health Care District’s proposal to promote interim CEO, Mary Casillas

As nurses who are extremely concerned about the well-being of our community and patients at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital, we are appalled and outraged that the San Benito Health Care District has chosen this time to elevate Mary Casillas’ status from interim to permanent CEO and offer a salary that would amount to greater than 30 percent increase in her salary.

As Covid and other respiratory viruses are surging once again, NNU's latest nationwide survey of more than 2,600 RNs reveals continued failure by health care employers to protect staff and patients from Covid-19, other significant safety issues, and the ongoing deleterious effects of the pandemic on the emotional and physical health of nurses.
