Nurses join with partner environmental groups to demand climate justice now
More than 1,200 California Nurses Association/National Nurses Organizing Committee registered nurses, environmental and healthcare activists, and students on Dec. 3 marched and rallied in Los Angeles to demand that the world’s leaders, now convening in Paris for the United Nations Conference on Climate Change, adopt a binding and enforceable climate treaty, commit resources to fund the transformation to clean, renewable energy including a just transition program for those who now work in the fossil fuel industry, and call on wealthy, developed countries to provide resources for the less-developed countries to act on climate, with funding coming from a carbon tax and the Robin Hood tax.

Nurses and environmental activists will converge for an action in downtown Los Angeles today to demand a global agreement that reduces greenhouse gas pollution and supports a sustainable energy future at United Nations Climate Summit, COP21, that began Monday in Paris.
Organizers predict that the Los Angeles climate action will be even larger than expected since the French government prohibited the mass mobilizations that were planned in Paris on the eve of the summit, citing the heightened security situation.

California nurses union endorses Gavin Newsom in governor's race
A labor union representing nurses throughout California gave Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom an early endorsement in his 2018 campaign for governor Wednesday.
The Democratic hopeful was set to speak to the group's conference in Los Angeles.

Gavin Newsom picks up California nurses endorsement
The California Nurses Association, whose support helped Gov. Jerry Brown defeat Republican Meg Whitman in 2010, on Wednesday endorsed Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom to succeed him.
The endorsement, though not unexpected, comes unusually early – three years before the 2018 election. It is an indication of Newsom’s appeal to organized labor, and also a challenge facing one of his main rivals, former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.
