Thousands of nurses storm 60 Congressional offices

In a week that recorded no new jobs being created in the U.S. for the entire month of August, and many people struggling with what to do about it, nurses around the U.S. sent an entirely different message -- get out in the streets and demand change. On Thursday, thousands of nurses, joined by other labor and community supporters, went to the doorsteps of 60 members of Congress in 21 states across the U.S.

RNs Protest Management's Efforts to Undermine Patient Care at St. Rose Hospital in Hayward

The Registered Nurses at St. Rose Hospital in Hayward conducted a candlelight vigil today to protest management's stalling in negotiations for a first contract and refusing to address issues that are fundamental to quality patient care. In December 2012, after several years of mismanagement at St. Rose, the RNs voted to affiliate with the California Nurses Association. Since that time, RNs have actively sought to negotiate a new collective bargaining agreement that preserves some of their existing standards, and also improves them so that RNs can provide the best patient care. The nurses and their bargaining team have focused on standards that also address the retention and recruitment of experienced RNs.

Providence Nurses Say Enough is Enough: No More Cuts

Refusing to accept current working conditions, scores of California Nurses Association/National Nurses United RNs from three Los Angeles-area Providence hospitals rallied and picketed on the sidewalks of Saint John's Health Center and Little Company of Mary Torrance, with the same message directed at management: " No cuts!" As they bargain contracts at each of the facilities, nurses demand enforceable staffing language, no cuts in benefits, and enough of a raise in wages to solve Providence's chronic, and costly, crisis of recruitment and retention.
