BOSTON, MA -- Today the Massachusetts Senate cast a unanimous vote to override Governor Deval Patrick's veto of funds necessary to keep Taunton State Hospital open, and voted to override his veto of an independent study on the mental health needs of Commonwealth residents. The senate action follows yesterday’s unanimous override votes by the House of Representatives, thereby ensuring the survival of Taunton State Hospital, with 45 beds, while providing the state with an opportunity (through the independent study) to formulate a plan to address the serious and growing mental health crisis in Massachusetts.

They see her there sketching in a notebook the dresses and blouses and jackets she would one day like to design. Nataline Sarkisyan died in a UCLA hospital bed on Dec. 20, 2007. She was 17. Her story drew nationwide attention because the liver transplant she needed was denied by her family's health insurer, CIGNA.

For Our Health or Your Wealth, That is the Question

Submitted by oldAdministrator on
Patients find it very difficult to tell in our dysfunctional healthcare system in the U.S. whether we are being cared for as people or being worked over for profit potential. It’s frustrating and painful to hear ourselves referred to as consumers or customers rather than patients. Rest assured that when someone labels us as things rather than human beings, it’s more than a difference in terminology; it’s a big, bold statement on exactly where and how we fit.
