Bill to Strengthen Workplace Violence Prevention in CA Hospitals Advances Again in Legislature

Legislation to assure California hospitals have stronger measures to reduce workplace violence incidents continues to move forward in the California state legislature as it passed its second Assembly test today. Senate Bill 1299, introduced by Sen. Alex Padilla, and sponsored by the California Nurses Association/National Nurses United, was approved by the Assembly Health Committee today, and heads next to the Assembly Appropriations Committee for consideration, probably later this summer. The bill won approval by the California Senate last month.

Registered Nurses Applaud Cal/OSHA's Adoption of Stronger Safe Patient Handling Regulations

The Cal/OSHA Standards Board voted Thursday to adopt new regulations on safe patient handling that are designed to protect registered nurses and other healthcare workers from patient handling injuries and to provide patients with safe and appropriate care. The board also granted a petition, submitted by the California Nurses Association, requesting that the Cal/OSHA Standards Board establish standards for violence prevention in healthcare workplaces.

RN-Backed Bill to Step Up Hospital Violence Prevention Takes Big Step in Passing Senate

A bill to step up efforts to prevent workplace violence in California hospitals took a major step forward today by winning approval in the California State Senate, making it the third significant legislation sponsored by the California Nurses Association/National Nurses United to win approval over the last two days. SB 1299, the Healthcare Workplace Violence Prevention Act introduced by Senator Alex Padilla, would require that hospitals establish workplace violence prevention plans including strong personnel education and planning programs and systems to assess and mitigate factors that contribute to violence in the hospital.

RN-Backed Bills on Patient Choice, Safety, Workplace Violence Prevention Advance in Sacramento

Three bills sponsored by the California Nurses Association/National Nurses United that would enhance patient safety, increase access to care, and promote workplace violence prevention advanced in the California legislature this week. Late Tuesday night, the Assembly Health Committee gave the green light to AB 2533 to protect the ability of Californians to seek medical care from the providers of their choice by restricting higher charges for patients who get medical care outside their insurance provider “network.”
