Administrative Assistant to Chief Legal Counsel

The California Nurses Association/National Nurses United (CNA/NNU)—the largest union and professional association of registered nurses in U.S. history—is hiring an Administrative Assistant to CNA/NNU’s Chief Legal Counsel in Oakland, CA.

Responsibilities:

  • Works under the direction of the Chief Legal Counsel to ensure compliance with external law
  • Supports the Chief Legal Counsel and other departmental staff with Department of Labor regulatory compliance and legal reporting requirements
  • Assists the Chief Legal Counsel and other departmental staff in administration of internal union officer elections 
  • Supports the Chief Legal Counsel and other staff in the management and reporting concerning Political Action Committee-related activities
  • Assists the Chief Legal Counsel and other union staff with preparation of state and federal lobbying reports, and other regulatory matters
  • Assists the Chief Legal Counsel and other union staff with nonprofit charitable organizations reporting and other administrative duties.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; legal and/or database systems management background preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of experience supporting senior staff
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in an administrative or coordination role
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Sharp attention to detail with a consistent focus on accuracy across daily tasks and projects
  • Demonstrated ability to manage confidential information and sensitive relationships with discretion
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word)
  • Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in all dealings with other staff and union leadership
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience with research and implementation of new software/database systems
  • Demonstrated ability to provide proactive support
  • Ability to identify opportunities

Location, Work Mode, Compensation:

  • On-site schedule: Required in-office Monday through Friday
  • Competitive annual salary of $105,677 to $114,715 dependent on skills and experience. Generous benefit package including comprehensive family health and dental plan, pension and 401(k).
