Press Release
November 17-18: University of California RNs will sympathy strike with AFSCME 3299
CNA sympathy pickets will be at nine UC medical centers statewide
University of California (UC) registered nurses will walk the picket lines on Monday, November 17 and Tuesday, November 18 in a sympathy strike with members of AFSCME 3299. The registered nurses are members of California Nurses Association/National Nurses United (CNA/NNU), which represents more than 25,000 RNs across 19 facilities operated by the University of California.
CNA members are supporting members of AFSCME 3299, as they strike to highlight a retention crisis that makes it challenging for UC medical centers to run effectively. More than one-third of AFSCME-represented UC workers, equivalent to 13,000 workers, have left their positions as patient transporters, radiology technicians, mental health workers, and clinical care partners–among other essential roles at UC medical centers –in the past three years.
CNA had previously announced a sympathy strike with both AFSCME 3299 and UPTE, prior to UPTE reaching a tentative agreement with the UC.
