National Nurses United (NNU), the largest union of registered nurses in the United States, today announced they have endorsed Assemblymember Luz Maria Rivas to represent California’s 29th Congressional District, home to over 750,000 people in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles.

“We are proud to endorse Luz Maria Rivas in her race for Congress,” said Sandy Reding, RN, president of California Nurses Association (CNA) and vice president of NNU. “As a California Assemblymember, Rivas has secured tens of millions of dollars to invest in job creation, infrastructure projects, public education, and health care in the San Fernando Valley. Assemblymember Rivas is a proven policy leader for working families, putting their needs before corporations and billionaires. She has also been a fierce advocate for environmental and climate justice as Chair of the Assembly Committee on Natural Resources. We need more elected leaders like Assemblymember Rivas fighting for nurses’ values in our nation’s capital.”

“Nurses are the backbone of the American healthcare system, and quality care depends on having well-trained nurses in safe workplaces with proper nurse-to-patient staffing levels,” said Assemblymember Rivas. “I stand with nurses because they are essential to ensuring that every patient receives quality healthcare.”

NNU supports candidates who are committed to building a broad movement for transformative social change that includes safe patient staffing in all hospitals across the country, protecting the rights of workers to organize, and guaranteeing health care to everyone. NNU looks forward to helping elect Luz Maria Rivas and working closely with her in Congress on the important issues that affect registered nurses, our patients, and our communities.

In a recent Gallup poll, nurses were voted the most trusted profession in the United States for the 22nd consecutive year. Nurses across the country trust Luz Maria Rivas as the candidate who embodies their values of caring, compassion, and community.

NNU represents 225,000 nurses across the nation, and their affiliate, CNA, represents over 100,000 nurses in more than 200 facilities throughout California.

National Nurses United is the largest and fastest-growing union and professional association of registered nurses in the United States with nearly 225,000 members nationwide.
