Union nurses endorse Adelita Grijalva for Congress

National Nurses United (NNU), the largest union and professional association of registered nurses in the United States, today announced it has endorsed Adelita Grijalva in a special election to represent Arizona’s 7th Congressional District.
“Adelita Grijalva’s progressive vision and commitment to public service make her the clear choice to represent the people of southern Arizona,” said NNU President Nancy Hagans, RN. “Nurses are widely recognized as the most trusted professionals in the country, and Adelita has shown she will be an outstanding advocate in Congress for nurses’ values of caring, compassion, and community. We look forward to the opportunity to work with Adelita on the important fights ahead to protect our health care.”
“We are amidst one of the most egregious attacks on our health care systems through the 2025 budget reconciliation bill, and we need fighters like Grijalva in the halls of Congress to stand up for our patients and the communities where we live and work,” said Hagans. “A committed progressive activist, Grijalva has brought those values and organizing skills into governance during her time on the Pima County Board of Supervisors and the Governing Board of the Tucson Unified School District.”
"Nurses show up for us every day with skill, compassion, and courage, and I’m proud to stand with them in the fight for safe staffing, fair wages, and health care as a human right,” said Grijalva. “Together, we’ll build a system that truly puts patients and frontline workers first. I'm honored to have the support of National Nurses United in this people-powered movement.”
NNU supports candidates who are committed to nurses’ values, including building a broad movement for transformative social change that includes safe patient staffing in all hospitals across the country, protecting the rights of workers to organize, and guaranteeing health care to everyone. NNU looks forward to helping elect Adelita Grijalva and working closely with her in Congress on the important issues that affect registered nurses, our patients, and our communities.
National Nurses United is the largest and fastest-growing union and professional association of registered nurses in the United States with more than 225,000 members nationwide. NNU affiliates include California Nurses Association/National Nurses Organizing Committee, DC Nurses Association, Michigan Nurses Association, Minnesota Nurses Association, and New York State Nurses Association.
