Stroger Hospital Nurses to Hold Action at Shift Change to Protest the Lack of Appropriate Gowns and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Stroger Hospital Nurses

To protest the lack of personal protective equipment and the high number of COVID-19 infections among the nurses, registered nurses at John H. Stroger Hospital will hold an action and media availability during their shift change, announced National Nurses United (NNU) today.

Nurses and other staff are being denied hair covers, shoe covers, and isolation gowns that are designed to protect against viral infection. Cook County Health and Hospital System is failing to systematically screen staff for COVID-19 symptoms at the beginning and end of their shifts, which is a practice required by the Chicago Department of Public Health. Nurses are demanding personal protective equipment that is designed to protect against viral infections and that the Cook County Health and Hospital System comply with the directives of the Chicago Department of Public Health.

National Nurses Organizing Committee/National Nurses United is the nation’s largest and fastest-growing nurses union representing 150,000 registered nurses across the country.
