Union nurses condemn lockout as MarinHealth bars RNs from going back to work

Registered nurses at MarinHealth Medical Center in Greenbrae, California, condemn management for proceeding with a two-day lockout following the RNs’ one-day strike at their hospital on February 18, announced California Nurses Association/National Nurses United (CNA/NNU) today.

Management is prohibiting RNs from returning to work for two days, Februaru 19 to February 20, after the strike.

"This morning, we attempted to report to work today and were told to leave the property,” said David DeBruler, RN in the medical-surgical unit. “We would love to be here and provide care for our patients as we usually do. Management is punishing us for striking. It's unfortunate, but this is where we are at."

On February 10, MarinHealth management told nurses that they would be locked out for an additional two days following their planned one-day strike. They also cancelled three previously scheduled bargaining sessions, including one scheduled the day before the strike.

MarinHealth nurses have been in contract negotiations since June 2025 with little to no movement on key issues. The RNs urge management to invest in nursing staff and agree to a contract that provides appropriate staffing for nurses to take proper meal and rest breaks, improvements to address recruitment and retention, and affordable health care.

CNA represents more than 700 nurses at MarinHealth Medical Center.

California Nurses Association/National Nurses United is the largest and fastest-growing union and professional association of registered nurses in the nation with more than 100,000 members in more than 200 facilities throughout California and more than 225,000 RNs nationwide.
