National Nurses United (NNU), the country’s largest nurses union, today announced its endorsement of Dr. Aisha Wahab for California’s 14th Congressional District. As a California State Senator, Dr. Wahab brought her experience in public health and social work to fight for a single-payer health care system. Nurses are ready to work with Dr. Wahab to deliver on a progressive agenda that will improve the lives of our patients, immigrant neighbors, and all working people.

“During her time in the California legislature, Dr. Aisha Wahab fought for affordable and safe housing, health care for all, and a progressive tax system that ensures billionaires pay their fair share,” said NNU President Mary Turner, RN. “We need leaders like Dr. Wahab in Congress who are ready to stand up to this administration to keep our immigrant neighbors safe and push for a health care system that will truly guarantee coverage for all, like Medicare for All. Dr. Wahab’s background in public health and history of standing on the side of nurses and patients will make her a strong advocate in Congress.”

“Health care is a human right,” said Dr. Wahab. “Nurses were there for my family in our most critical moments, and I’ll stand with them in Congress to put people before profits. I’ll build on my Senate record of capping insulin costs, protecting Medi-Cal, and universal healthcare.”

NNU represents more than 225,000 nurses nationwide and supports candidates who are committed to nurses’ values, including safe patient staffing in all hospitals across the country, protecting the rights of workers to organize, and guaranteeing health care to everyone through Medicare for All. In a recent Gallup poll, nurses were voted the most trusted profession in the United States for the 24th consecutive year. NNU looks forward to helping elect Dr. Wahab and working closely with her in Congress on the important issues that affect registered nurses, our patients, and our communities.

National Nurses United is the largest and fastest-growing union and professional association of registered nurses in the United States with more than 225,000 members nationwide.
