National Nurses United (NNU), the largest union of registered nurses in the United States with more than 225,000 members, today announced its endorsement of Connie Chan for California’s 11th Congressional District. Nurses are ready to elect leaders like Connie Chan, who will bring her years of organizing and advocacy experience to Congress to deliver on a progressive agenda that will improve the lives of our patients, immigrant neighbors, and all working people.

“As a San Francisco Supervisor, Connie fought for protections for our immigrant neighbors and secured funding for health care to prevent people from losing their coverage amid federal cuts,” said NNU President Mary Turner, RN. “Connie is ready to undo the damage that has been done by the Trump administration, and she will work to rebuild our systems to benefit working people, not the billionaires. Once elected, we know Connie will fight to put an end to Trump’s harmful ICE and CBP operations, as well as restore cuts to our social safety net programs.”

“Health care is a right, and it’s under attack. I’ll take on Donald Trump and work to restore funding for health care for millions of Americans. And I’ll go further to advocate and build a coalition to deliver Medicare for All,” said Connie Chan. “I’m ready for this fight, and I’m proud to stand beside NNU nurses who have always been on the front lines working for accessible, guaranteed health care for everyone. I’m honored to have their endorsement.”

NNU supports candidates who are committed to nurses’ values, including safe patient staffing in all hospitals across the country, protecting the rights of workers to organize, and guaranteeing health care to everyone through Medicare for All. In a recent Gallup poll, nurses were voted the most trusted profession in the United States for the 24th consecutive year. NNU looks forward to helping elect Connie Chan and working closely with her in Congress on the important issues that affect registered nurses, our patients, and our communities.
