Fresh from a successful whirlwind tour of Nevada, another early voting state, the National Nurses United’s #BernieBus tour arrives in Iowa Tuesday morning, Jan. 19 for a series of campaign events heading towards the first in the nation caucuses February 1.

To kick off the Iowa stay, nurses will arrive on the #BernieBus for a big morning rally in Des Moines with members of the American Postal Workers Union Local 44, Communication Workers of America, and grassroots activists from the Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement Action Fund and Americans for Democratic Action. CCI Action Fund is a co-partner in the bus tour.

The rally begins at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 19, at the APWU Local 44 hall, 1200 E Euclid Ave., Des Moines.

In the #BernieBus campaign swing, nurses have visited hospitals, to encourage other RNs to register to vote and pledge to caucus or vote for Sanders, colleges, rallies and other events where Sanders has spoken, public gatherings, and even stopped by a Donald Trump rally in Reno to spread the message of the campaign.

“Nurses are extremely excited about the Sanders campaign,” says NNU Co-President Jean Ross, RN, who will be with the bus in Des Moines Tuesday. “Bernie is the only candidate who speaks to nurses’ values of caring, compassion, and community with a comprehensive program to heal our nation, from expanding health care coverage to cover all Americans, to creating millions of new good paying jobs and free public college education to tacking the climate crisis and its harmful health effects.”
