National Nurses United endorses Patty Garcia for Illinois’ 4th District
National Nurses United (NNU), the largest union of registered nurses in the United States with more than 225,000 members, today announced its endorsement of Patty Garcia for Illinois’ 4th Congressional District. Born and raised in Chicago, Patty has spent decades fighting for health care justice, immigrant rights, and an economy that values working people, not billionaires.
“Patty Garcia is a principled fighter who has consistently stood with nurses and our patients,” said Mary Turner, RN and NNU president. “She is willing to do the hard work of bringing people along in the progressive fight to transform our political and economic system. Nurses know they have an ally in Patty, and we look forward to working with her to protect our immigrant neighbors, win guaranteed health care through Medicare for All, and build a government and an economy that benefits working people.
"Nurses are on the front lines of the fight for health care justice,” said Patty Garcia. “Their support means everything because they know our broken system up close. I’m proud to stand with them to win Medicare for All, defend our immigrant communities, and build a country that puts people before corporate profit.”
NNU supports candidates who are committed to nurses’ values, including safe staffing in all hospitals across the country, protecting the rights of workers to organize, and guaranteeing health care to everyone. In a recent Gallup poll, nurses were voted the most trusted profession in the United States for the 24th consecutive year. NNU looks forward to helping elect Patty and working closely with her in Congress on the important issues that affect registered nurses, our patients, and our communities.
National Nurses United is the largest and fastest-growing union and professional association of registered nurses in the United States with more than 225,000 members nationwide. NNU affiliates include California Nurses Association/National Nurses Organizing Committee, DC Nurses Association, Michigan Nurses Association, Minnesota Nurses Association, and New York State Nurses Association.
