National Nurses United (NNU), the largest union of registered nurses in the United States with more than 225,000 members, today announced its endorsement of Junaid Ahmed for Illinois’ 8th Congressional District. Ahmed will stand with nurses to protect our immigrant neighbors, advocate for the rights of Palestinians, and stand up to Donald Trump’s assault on our democracy.

“Junaid Ahmed is a progressive leader who has organized in his community for years,” said Mary Turner, RN and NNU President. “Junaid stepped up during the pandemic to make sure his community had the protections and care they needed, and now he is stepping up to run for Congress to fix our broken political system. He is committed to fighting for Medicare for All and bold climate action, and he will work to build a government and an economy that serves working people, not the billionaire class.”

“I’m honored to receive the endorsement of National Nurses United, whose members see every day how our broken healthcare system fails working families,” said Junaid Ahmed. “No one should have to choose between getting the care they need and paying their bills. That’s why I’m fighting for Medicare for All — so every person can access high-quality healthcare, and we finally put patients before profits.”

NNU supports candidates who are committed to nurses’ values, including safe staffing in all hospitals across the country, protecting workers' rights to organize, and guaranteeing health care for everyone. In a recent Gallup poll, nurses were voted the most trusted profession in the United States for the 24th consecutive year. NNU looks forward to helping elect Ahmed and working closely with him in Congress on the important issues that affect registered nurses, our patients, and our communities.

National Nurses United is the largest and fastest-growing union and professional association of registered nurses in the United States with more than 225,000 members nationwide.
