May 19: California Nurses Association RNs to protest hospital industry greed and lobby lawmakers in support of bills to promote and protect patient, nurse safety
Hundreds of the state’s union registered nurses represented by California Nurses Association (CNA) will converge in Sacramento on Tuesday, May 19 to protest hospital industry greed and lobby lawmakers in support of bills to promote and protect the safety of their patients and health care workers.
The legislation covers a range of issues, from establishing guardrails and corporate accountability on the use of artificial intelligence in health care — as well as prioritizing nursing judgment over technology — to closing corporate tax loopholes, to making it easier for nurses hurt on the job to access workers’ compensation benefits. For more details on all our sponsored bills and bill numbers, see this webpage.
“As the frontline and last line of defense for people against health care corporations that just want to maximize their profit off the backs of both patients and nurses, we are here to speak truth to power and demand our elected officials pass this legislation to protect all of us Californians,” said Sandy Reding, RN and a California Nurses Association president.
Nurses will be marching on the California Hospital Association, the lobbying organization for the state’s hospital industry, in opposition to its ballot measure to block health care unions from participating in the political process. Nurses will then meet and share their experiences with legislators to urge them to pass our sponsored bills.
Media are invited to the march and nurses will be available for interviews.
