RNs at Adventist Health Sierra Vista and Adventist Health Twin Cities on the Central Coast approve new pact

Registered nurses at Adventist Health Sierra Vista in San Luis Obispo, Calif., and Adventist Health Twin Cities in Templeton, Calif., on the Central Coast, voted overwhelmingly in favor of ratifying new four-year contracts on July 29, winning protections to improve patient safety and nurse retention, announced California Nurses Association/National Nurses United (CNA/NNU).

Adventist Health nurses have been in negotiations since March of 2025 for a new contract and held several solidarity actions, including an informational picket on June 24. After nearly five months of bargaining, the RNs were able to reach an agreement.

“We won stronger protections for both nurses and patients,” said Amber Wiehl, RN, chief nurse rep at Adventist Health Sierra Vista, member of the bargaining team, and CNA/National Nurses Organizing Committee board member. “With this new agreement, we can recruit new RNs and retain experienced nurses. This contract is a win for the frontline RNs and for the quality of care our communities deserve.”

Highlights of the contract include:

  • Increased patient safety through expansion of the Professional Practice Committee, a staff RN-controlled committee with the authority to document unsafe practices and the power to make real changes.
  • Fought back takeaways to health care benefits and maintained current health care package.
  • Wage increases over the four-year contract to recruit and retain nurses, and incentives to boost recruitment and retention of night shift nurses.

The new pact covers the period July 30, 2025 to July 31, 2029.

CNA represents more than 550 nurses at Adventist Health Sierra Vista and Adventist Health Twin Cities.

California Nurses Association/National Nurses United is the largest and fastest-growing union and professional association of registered nurses in the nation with more than 100,000 members in more than 200 facilities throughout California and more than 225,000 RNs nationwide.
