Regulatory/Policy Specialist — Illinois, California, Maryland, or Washington, D.C.

California Nurses Association/National Nurses Organizing Committee/National Nurses United (CNA/NNOC/NNU), the nation’s largest nurses’ union, is looking for a Regulatory/Policy Specialist who can analyze, recommend, and shape health policy, legislation, and regulations. We’re open to considering broad backgrounds and committed to providing support in learning more about health care policy and nursing practice.

Responsibilities – (What you’ll do)

  • Monitor state legislatures, government agencies, and regulatory bodies for CNA/NNOC/NNU priority legislative and regulatory issues.
  • Interpret and assess proposed legislation and government agency regulations for potential impact on health care, registered nurses, and patients.
  • Produce written documents on the effects of regulations, legislation, and policy on health care, registered nurses, and patients.
  • Develop policy positions, testimony, talking points, and lobbying materials.
  • Meet with legislators and legislative staff regarding CNA/NNOC/NNU’s position on proposed legislation.
  • Represent CNA/NNOC/NNU before state legislative committees, regulatory agencies, boards, and commissions.
  • Prepare reports on regulatory issues and activities for members, leaders, and staff.

Minimum Requirements – (What you’ll bring)

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Demonstrated written and analytical skills
  • Ability to work in a position requiring judgment and confidentiality
  • Demonstrated commitment to social and economic justice
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team

Preferred Skills/Knowledge/Experience – (Experience that is helpful but not required)

  • Juris Doctor degree
  • Experience juggling competing demands and changing priorities on a deadline
  • Familiarity with state and federal law and regulations related to health care and nursing
  • Firsthand experience in legal/regulatory research and drafting effective legislation, regulations, and policies

Compensation

CNA/NNOC/NNU provides a very competitive salary range $111,543 - $129,511 and benefit package including full family and domestic partner coverage, medical, dental, pension and 401(k).
