Ascension strikes in Kansas and Texas - Wichita and Austin nurse media availability

Nurses picketing outside hospital hold signs calling for patient safety and safe staffing

Registered nurses in Texas and Kansas at three Ascension hospitals are moving forward with one-day strikes on Wednesday, Dec. 6, to protest unsafe conditions management has failed to remedy.

Wichita

Tuesday, Dec. 5

STRIKE PREPARATION. Nurses will gather to make posters and picket signs for the strike the next day.

Wednesday, Dec. 6

STRIKE START. Nurses will be walk out of the building at 7 a.m. and begin their strike.
Time: Picketing from 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. CT
Locations: Ascension Via Christi St. Joseph, at the intersection of S. Clifton Ave. and E. Harry St.
Ascension Via Christi St. Francis, at the intersection of St. Francis and E. Murdock Ave.

COMMUNITY RALLY. Nurses from Ascension Via Christi St. Francis and St. Joseph will be joined by elected leaders, community allies, and supporting union members.

BACK-TO-WORK RALLY. Nurses will rally to show management they are ready to take care of patients after a one-day strike, despite being locked out for three additional days.

Friday, Dec. 8

GIFT DRIVE. Nurses will host a gift drive for donations of toys and school supplies in response to Ascension’s canceling of the Christi Child Development Center’s (CDC) Christmas concert that was scheduled to take place on Friday, Dec. 8. Many nurses have children enrolled in the CDC.
Time: 10 am to 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
