Nurses: Don’t Let Them Silence Your Voice – Your Vote Matters

RNs Criticize Unwarranted Media Call on Eve of Primaries

National Nurses United today urged voters in six primary states set to cast ballots today for Sen. Bernie Sanders to get to the polls and rebuke the effort of the major media to say their votes no longer matter.

“Don’t let the cynical manipulation by the corporate media silence your voices. This is a movement, not a coronation, and every vote matters,” said NNU Executive Director RoseAnn DeMoro today.

Introducing Sen. Sanders at a huge fog-shrouded get out the vote rally near the foot of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco last night, DeMoro noted, “We all are here because we have a mandate: A Future to Believe In.”

“When California votes for Bernie, we will take our momentum and that mandate into the battle for the Presidency of the United States. We will fight through the convention in Philadelphia for Bernie to be the Democratic Party nominee. Loss is not an option. We won't let that happen to our country.”

The rally was held while the Associated Press and other large media outlets were declaring the Democratic primary contest to be over based on a telephone poll of  “super delegates” rather than primary state voters who have actually cast ballots.

In fact, neither leading Democratic candidate will have secured enough pledged delegates to have clinched the nomination even after the six states voting today – California, New Jersey, New Mexico, Montana, North Dakota, and South Dakota – complete their primaries.

The super delegates do not actually cast votes on determining the nominee until voting takes place on the floor of the Democratic National Convention July 25.

“For the media to declare it is over while primary voters have yet had a chance to vote is a disgraceful and manipulative attempt to discourage people from voting, yet the latest illustration of the disrespect both the Democratic Party and their allies in the major media have for our democratic process,” DeMoro said.

“Nurses and the millions of others who want to reform our corporate-controlled political and economic system will not stop fighting for change,” DeMoro added. “For today, we urge all voters in the six states up today to be sure to get your ballots in and join with us in this transformative political movement.”
