California Event will be Nation’s Largest Celebration of Most Significant Reform for Women’s Rights in U.S. History

The great, great, great granddaughter of legendary suffragist and women’s rights activist Elizabeth Cady-Stanton will join thousands of registered nurses and other women’s, labor, and community groups in Sacramento, August 26, in the nation’s largest event marking the 90th anniversary of enactment of the 19th Amendment – which finally achieved Stanton’s dream of securing the right to vote for women.

                  Rally at West Steps of State Capitol, Sacramento, Calif.

 
Elizabeth Jenkins-Sahlin, Stanton’s great, great granddaughter will speak at the rally which will be preceded by a colorful march evoking the tone and imagery of the suffrage era with many participants in period attire, and other symbols of the suffrage movement – one of the most significant reform movements in U.S. history.

Elizabeth Cady-Stanton was one of the foremost pioneers of the suffrage and women’s right movement. She was a key figure in the founding of the 1848 Seneca Falls (NY) Convention which called for securing the right to vote for women, and was later the first president of the National Woman Suffrage Association from 1869 to 1890.
