California Nurses Association/National Nurses United (CNA/NNU) is a progressive, feminist labor union with more than 170,000 members in states across the country. CNA/NNU is a founding member of Global Nurses United, which includes nurses' unions from 19 countries around the globe.
CNA/NNU advocates aggressively to improve working conditions for bedside nurses. The union also works to promote "nurses values" in the larger community, by advocating on issues like universal healthcare, environmental justice, racial equality, economic fairness, and quality public education.
The legal department, based in Oakland, CA, is made up of attorneys dedicated to the labor movement, and to the union's broader vision of social and economic equality. We are hiring an attorney to keep up with the needs of our growing union. Legal work here includes traditional labor law practice before the NLRB and state public employee relations boards, federal and state civil litigation, legislative and policy work, arbitration, property management, regulatory compliance, and other needs that arise in the course of operating a large non-profit organization. Some demonstrated commitment to the labor movement is required.
The legal department is a friendly and collaborative work environment. We are currently working remotely, but will be returning to our office in Uptown Oakland at some point.
