County Nurses Are Striking for Their Patients
Registered nurses at Alameda Hospital, San Leandro Hospital, and the San Joaquin County health system recently announced their intent to strike to stand up for their patients. Our communities are facing a health care crisis.
In San Joaquin County, nurses are staffed at dangerously low levels — putting them and their patients at risk. The county has failed to provide the resources nurses need to do their jobs, and insists on cuts to their contract that will result in dangerous nurse turnover. In Alameda County, management has refused to consider proposals for safe staffing and patient care, and have even disciplined nurses who speak out against dangerous working conditions.
