The Queen Meg Farewell Tour: "Lies, Hypocrisy, & Pink Slips”

For Immediate Release
October 20, 2010

Queen Meg Will Take Lie Detector at Each Stop—As She Promised!—Tour Kicks Off Thursday, Oct. 21

A grand coalition of California’s leading women’s, feminist, and workers’ organizations will close out the 2010 campaign with a statewide bus tour highlighting candidate Meg Whitman’s lies to the public and her Wall Street values.  The California Nurses Association will be joined on the tour by many of the state’s leading organizations of women, and by the local working families and working women who would be harmed by Whitman’s election.

The tour kicks off Thursday, Oct. 21 at 10:30 a.m.

The bus tour will also feature Queen Meg, the parody monarch who has become a national icon of this election, taking a lie detector test at each stop, which will be administered by her minions Princess Carly, Goldman and Sachs.  Meg Whitman promised the California public to take a polygraph test in the wake of several demonstrably-untrue claims to voters, but has yet to do so.

“Meg Whitman has made very clear that she cares more about her Wall Street agenda than about the truth or the very real problems facing California women and California voters,” said DeAnn McEwen, RN, co-President of the California Nurses Association.  “We are asking the public to vote nurses’ values of caring, compassion, and community and that means rejecting Wall Street programs promoted by Whitman that would further erode living standards and public protections so critical to our patients, our families, and our communities.”

Whitman has threatened to fire 40,000 state workers in office and to blow a $5 billion hole in the state budget with a tax cut that favors wealthy investors like herself but disadvantages everyday workers.  This “billionaire’s tax cut” will force devastating cuts to health and education which will harm families already suffering from this recession and from Whitman’s layoffs.
