WASHINGTON – ON THURSDAY, April 14, Ranking Member Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (VA-03) will be joined by Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Representatives Frederica Wilson (FL-24), and Joe Courtney (CT-02) in hosting a press conference along with several health care workers who have faced workplace violence. The Members of Congress will unveil the findings of a new report by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) on actions needed to reduce and mitigate the incidence of workplace violence in health care facilities.

Although health care facilities are perceived as a place to get well, many who are employed in these facilities face elevated risk of injury from violence—mostly originating from patients. GAO conducted this study over the course of nearly two years, interviewed health care workers in five states, and evaluated OSHA’s efforts to protect health care workers from workplace violence. The Members will highlight findings and recommendations in regards to report.
