Central Florida Regional RNs Hold Job Fair to Recruit for 116 Vacancies for Optimal Care

As the hospitals in Sanford and the surrounding area experience an influx of patients, RNs at Central Florida Regional Hospital will hold a press conference and job fair on January 26 to recruit for much needed staff. The hospital currently has 116 vacancies ranging from managers to secretaries, including both full time and part-time positions. RN Christina Constatine, an officer of the nurses’ union, points out that “RNs are caring for one patient after another, a constant stream without rest breaks. It is well-proven that higher staffing always leads to a higher level of patient care. We need to get all these vacancies filled.”

Central Florida Regional Hospital RNs negotiated their first union contract in 2012 and belong to National Nurses Organizing Committee-Florida/National Nurses United, the nation’s largest direct-care RN union representing 185,000 members. The collective bargaining agreement provides for and encourages RNs to actively advocate on behalf of their patients.

“I believe we have talented people in the community who will be an asset to the hospital. I want the community to know they don’t have to go far to look for job opportunities. There are some right in their back yard,” said Karen Wildberger, RN, who works in the Surgical Services Unit. “I saw the effects of vacancies in the hospital and know that by having quality staff in place, we can have optimal care.”

"We’ve expressed the need to fill the vacancies with CFL administration, but as nurses we have to think out of the box,” said Wildberger. “Holding the job fair is our way to bring awareness to the vacancies to our community.”
