Massachusetts RN Karen Higgins: ‘Sanders Shares Our Values’

Karen Higgins, co-president of the nation’s largest RN organization National Nurses United who is also a Massachusetts RN, will represent Democratic Presidential Candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders at the Massachusetts Democratic Party Convention in Springfield, Ma. Saturday morning.

Some 3,200 delegates are expected to attend the convention being held at the MassMutual Center, 1277 Main Street, Springfield, Ma (corner of Main Street and Falcons Way).

NNU last month became the first national union to endorse Sen. Sanders citing his alignment with nurses’ values on virtually every major issue, including his support for guaranteed healthcare for all, his decades long support of working people and labor, and calls for robust action to tackle what Sanders calls the “grotesque” wealth and income gap in the U.S.

Higgins has appeared with Sanders at several other events, including at a rally earlier this month in Grinnell, Iowa, site of the first Presidential caucus, and at a rally in Washington in July marking the 50th anniversary of the enactment of Medicare.

“It is Bernie Sanders who shares our values of caring, compassion and community to heal America,” Higgins says.

NNU represents 185,000 nurses from California to Florida, including nurses who live in the early caucus and primary states of Iowa, New Hampshire, and Nevada.
