Two important bills recently passed the Michigan Senate…bills to prevent further outbreaks of violence against health care professionals, particularly in the hospital setting. Over the last several years, violence toward health care professionals has been on the rise. While the exact cause of this is hard to determine, the number of incidents continue to rise. SB 642 and SB 643 address the need for harsher punishments to be in place for those who assault or batter a health care professional when they are performing their duties for the benefit of a patient.
