MNA - Safe Patient Care Act
We’ve known it for years: Low nurse staffing in hospitals contributes to serious patient complications and higher rates of death. Even so, hospitals – despite their soaring profits – too often refuse to put sufficient nurses on duty to provide safe care for their patients.
Michigan State Rep. Jon Switalski and State Sen. Rebekah Warren have introduced legislation in the House (HB 4311) and Senate (SB 228) that will solve this problem. The Safe Patient Care Act requires hospitals to develop and implement a written staffing plan that includes minimum nurse-to-patient ratios per unit. A comprehensive staffing law has saved lives and increased nurse retention in California, and it will work here.
Contact your state legislator today to urge them to make Michigan a leader in putting patients over profits.
